Lacu Rosu is a quiet holiday and ski resort and despite the fact that it is of national importance, the resort is yet undiscovered, most holiday makers and weekend travellers choosing to go to places like Poiana Brasov, Sinaia and Bran.

During the winter season the resort attracts ski lovers with its medium to difficult ski runs. Suhardul Mare Massif hosts one of the best ski runs in the country that is 2,400 m long and has an elevation difference of 600 m). During the summer tourists can go boating and fishing in the natural storage lake or climbing in the Bicaz Gorge, 3 km from the resort towards Bicaz. The surroundings of Lacu Rosu offer unbelievable opportunities for climbing, hiking, trekking, biking and caving. Climbing routes can vary in difficulty from 3B to 6B A4 and up to 8c+. There are dozens of signed trails in the forests and on the ridges. Snow covers the mountains from early December to late April with minimal risk of avalanches giving the possibility to explore the canyons of Bicajel. The main attraction of the resort is the natural storage lake - Lacu Rosu, one of few of this kind in Romania, formed in 1837 when a large part of Ghilcos peak of the Suhard Mountains slid thus creating a natural barrier on the river Bicaz. The lake has a depth of 10.5 meters and a surface of 12.6 hectares. The name of Lacu Rosu (Red Lake) comes from the reddish color of the water caused by the alluvia brought into the lake by its main tributary - Piriul Rosu (Red Creek).
